Mine railway locomotive P70

The flameproof mine locomotive P70 is designed to work in coal shafts that are in danger of gas or coal-dust explosion, and can be used to transport coal, materials, equipment and persons.

The locomotive can be used in environments that possess the danger of methane and coal-dust explosions up to the degree SNM2 according to § 232 of the Decree of the Czech Mining Office no. 22/1989 Coll., as amended. According to the Government Order No. 23/2003 (Directives No. 94/9 of the European Parliament and EU Council), the device is classified into the group I and category M2. The device fulfils requirements of GO No. 176/2008 (Directives No. 2006/42/EC of the European Parliament and EU Council).

The locomotive has a six-cylinder diesel engine, ŠKODA 6S 110 CO, with hydrostatic drive. The torsion moment of the engine is transferred to a hydraulic pump via flexible coupling; the hydraulic pump delivers oil under pressure into the hydroengine that passes the torsion moment to the engine axle. Transfer of the hydroengine torsion moment to the front gearbox is enabled by a cardan shaft. From the gearboxes, the torsion moment is transferred to the carriage axles and with their help onto the locomotive moving wheels. Roller bearings are installed at the ends of the carriage axles.. The bearing elements are connected to the locomotive frame by rubber-metallic springs. The rubber cushion springs protect the frame of the locomotive against heavy hits resulting from unevenness of railway lines, connections and rail switches. In order to decrease noise from the working locomotives engine, the engine is placed on a separate frame, located on the main frame, and is cushioned by silent blocks. The engine is covered by cover pieces that are covered from the inside by noise-insulating material. Electrical headlights (flameproof design) serve to  light the route; the headlights are located on the front walls of both locomotive cabins. Control equipment and control desks are installed in the cabins. The hydrostatic gearbox is equipped with a system of direct engine regulation that regulates engine output in optimal operation mode, and, according to rotation speed and pressure of the hydraulic system, it prevents potential overload of the hydroengine.
