We bring you an interview with Ludmila Škerková (Data Specialist), a new addition to our IT team at Ferrit.
We talked about her career, family, hobbies, and what brought her to our company, as well as the challenges that lie ahead.
• Could you tell us a few things about yourself to start with (education, family, etc.)?
I have two adult children — my son Matěj (26), who is a Japanologist, and my daughter Hanka (22), who is studying medicine. My husband Milan is also an IT professional, and we’ve known each other since I was ten.
I studied mathematics and computer science at Palacký University in Olomouc, and computers have been part of my life since high school, where I started programming in Basic on the IQ 151 at the age of fourteen.
• What brought you to Ferrit? Why did you choose us?
I have known about Ferrit for several years from my time as a planning systems administrator at Bonatrans Group, where the Ferrit planning team once came for a visit. I enjoy working in manufacturing, and when I saw a job opening in IT at Ferrit, I decided to give it a try.
• How do you like it at Ferrit so far? Has anything pleasantly surprised you?
I like it a lot. The entire manufacturing process — from development to final production — is incredibly interesting, and as an IT professional I enjoy being close to the environment where data is actually created.
I also really appreciate seeing the company owners actively involved in everyday operations and how much they care about the company.
• Do you already have any goals or plans for what you’d like to achieve here?
Ferrit gives me the opportunity to bring together all my previous experience. Building a new data warehouse as a foundation for quality reporting is an exciting challenge. A manufacturing company generates a huge amount of complex data — from development, technology, sales, and purchasing to production and logistics — and that is extremely interesting for anyone working in IT.
• What was most important to you when choosing a new job? Was it the team, company culture, or something else?
From the very beginning, I experienced very kind and professional communication from both HR and the IT leadership. I also saw the potential to apply both my technical and interpersonal skills. And that positive feeling has stayed with me.
• Your hobbies caught our attention on your profile — could you tell us more about them?
My work is mentally demanding, so at home I relax by working with my hands. I enjoy creating things, mainly from wood and glass, which fascinate me. I have my own workshops where I make all sorts of things for myself and my loved ones. I also love the mountains — they tire the body and clear the mind wonderfully.
• Looking back at your career, was there a moment that truly set you on the path you’re on now?
Every job has helped me grow and deepen my expertise. At Cybersoft, I learned to work independently while managing projects all the way from the initial ERP presentation to full implementation. At Bonatrans Group,
I discovered that I love manufacturing, and the diversity of systems and data was a great challenge for me.
At Uniwise, I improved my analytical skills and mastered Microsoft technologies. And now at Ferrit, I can finally bring all of this together in one place.
• What style of collaboration or communication suits you best at work? What helps you feel good in a team?
I enjoy meeting people and having insightful discussions — both professional and friendly. For efficient work, I also rely on online communication when I need to clarify something quickly, but I need to balance it with in-person meetings. I continuously work on developing my communication skills because I genuinely enjoy working with people.
• Is there anything you’d like to say to colleagues at Ferrit who may not know you well yet?
I look forward to meeting you at both work-related and informal events. I value the family-like atmosphere of the company and wish it continued success. I hope to contribute to that with work that I enjoy. So above all — may we stay healthy and may we all have work that fulfills us.
We would like to thank Ludmila for the pleasant conversation and wish her much success in her new role.
