As part of the “Meet the Ferrit Team” series, this time we spoke with the Quality Director of Ferrit s.r.o., Ing. Renata Měsícová. In the interview, she presents her professional journey, the day-to-day work of the quality team, and explains the important role that cooperation, prevention, and a team-oriented approach play in maintaining a high standard of quality across the entire company.
1. What was your professional journey to the position of Quality Director?
Before joining Ferrit in 2017 as a Quality Control Specialist, I worked for several years in automotive corporations. The transition from mass production to custom-made manufacturing represented a significant change and a major challenge for me. Within my first year at Ferrit, I was offered a managerial position in the quality area, which I accepted.
2. What education or experience has helped you the most in this role?
Studying quality management at university provided me with valuable theoretical knowledge, which I was able to further develop in practice. I gradually gained practical experience in my previous positions. At the beginning of my career, I worked directly in production, where I became familiar with many people and processes. This experience later significantly facilitated both personnel and process management of the quality department in my leadership role.
3. How would you describe your team, and what are you most proud of?
The quality team is involved in all areas of the company, which is why it is very diverse and each of us contributes different skills. Together, we manage daily challenges ranging from incoming quality assurance, through in-process and final inspections, to responding to specific customer requirements.
We address issues systematically with a strong focus on prevention. All activities are properly documented, and appropriate records are maintained for all tests. I am proud of the responsible and collaborative approach of every team member and of our open communication across departments. Given the relatively small size of the team, we function as a close-knit “second family.”
4. What does your typical working day look like, and what is its most important part?
I start my working day by reviewing operational matters and the results of completed inspections. This is followed by meetings focused on current topics and finding optimal solutions. Key aspects include setting priorities correctly, addressing potential escalations, and supporting the team, which enables early detection of deviations and ensures stable production quality.
5. What do you enjoy most about your job, and what motivates you?
I enjoy the fact that each day brings new situations and opportunities that I can actively influence. I can see tangible results of my work while also having the opportunity to develop a team that perceives quality as a natural part of everyday work. I see every challenge as an opportunity for further progress.
7. How do quality requirements differ across individual markets or customers that Ferrit works with?
The core customer requirements are very similar—products must comply with technical drawings and applicable legislation. Differences usually appear in details, such as the scope of documentation or compliance with national standards. Therefore, it is essential for us to remain continuously aligned with current requirements.
8. What role does the quality team play in cooperation with production and development?
In cooperation with production and development, the quality team has a partnership-based and supportive role. Together, we participate in setting up processes to ensure that quality is built in from the very beginning of product design. We actively take part in development and production meetings and share information across teams.
Thanks to this close collaboration, we are able to identify potential risks early and propose effective measures that contribute to the stable, long-term high quality of our products. We therefore perceive quality as a shared responsibility, not merely as a control activity at the end of the process.
9. What steps does the quality team take to ensure that Ferrit maintains a high quality standard in the long term?
To maintain a high quality standard, we carry out regular internal audits and inspections of both production and non-production areas. Continuous development of the team’s expertise also plays an important role and is supported through regular training sessions, for example in visual and magnetic non-destructive testing methods.
All equipment used in the quality area is regularly calibrated in accordance with applicable requirements. Working in quality can be demanding and often stressful, which is why we also place strong emphasis on team cohesion. At least twice a year, I organize teambuilding activities and apply an individual approach to each team member. It is precisely the combination of expertise, cooperation, and mutual support that forms the foundation of Ferrit’s consistently high level of quality.
We sincerely thank Ing. Renata Měsícová for the interview and for her contribution to the continuous development of quality at Ferrit.
